Actually I totally like men in the way you think, but I’ve never made a secret of that, let’s face it. What I want to make clear is that I like men as a breed. Tall, short, fat, thin, funny, serious – if they’re likeable then I like them. Some of them are fucking bellends, but then plenty of women are bellends as well.
There is justifiable outrage when a man says ‘all women are bitches’. So why is it so seemingly acceptable to knock men? The internet is arse deep in man-bashing memes that would be horrendously offensive if applied to women.
Funny, huh? Well, it might be funny if you have absolutely no fucking sense of humour, but people seem to like this shit – so long as it’s aimed at men.
Changed the target gender and it (obviously) reads ‘Women are like pigeons…confused, stupid and useless. RUN THEM OVER!!!’ Not so amusing when you look at it like that.
So why is it acceptable to diss blokes and claim it as ‘humour’? To define an entire gender as useless and babyish is to put women in a position of having to look after them for their own good. I’m not sure if people are missing something here, but to me that means men get to do whatever they please whilst women sigh tolerantly and pick up after them. How are you going to smash the patriarchy if you’re busy washing its pants and rolling your eyes as you regale your amused friends about Dave’s inability to figure out the delicates cycle?
We need to learn to see people as PEOPLE. Men, women, trans, whatever. All just people. Some of them are nice and some of them are utter knobjockeys, whatever their ascribed gender. Spend your time wisely on the good ones, ignore the idiots. And don’t presume to patronise, because whilst you’re busy forwarding on memes to your mates, you’re giving the butt of the joke the time and space to get on with life without you.
